Beyond Mobility: Vulog Consulting with Antonin Guy
After leading the global sales team for years, Antonin Guy recently becomes Vulog’s VP Consulting and Strategic Initiatives. He will be offering the consulting business with more potentialities. We gather some highlights of his thoughts on his new role, market prospects, customers, cities… and of course his first world tour in an electric car, in partnership with the French Electric Mobility Industry to promote EV deployment.
Tell us about the state of the shared mobility market – what’s happening now, and what it will look like in the near future?
We see today a strong acceleration of the market, from all the kick scooter services launched to the innovative carsharing services deployed all over the world. On top of that, most of the new players entering the market need to differentiate themselves from the competition, which leads to a strong innovation in the business models deployed and mobility services offered. For example, more and more operators are designing their own vehicles, dedicated to shared mobility: kick-scooters operators have been the pioneers, but mopeds and carsharing operators are also designing vehicles dedicated to urban mobility.
Since most of their operators are pretty new, they are today still in their learning curve, trying to fine-tune their model and optimize their operations. So I believe that the challenge of the industry in the coming months /years will be to better leverage data and machine learning opportunities to even better improve the mobility services.
Last but not least, I strongly believe that different types of shared mobility services will converge, to offer comprehensive solutions to end-users. Our client Poppy is a great example, they are combining cars, mopeds and kick-scooters in the same APP.
In the life cycle of a mobility project, how does Vulog Consulting add value for a mobility operator?
Over the past years, Vulog gained a lot of expertise working alongside some of the most successful shared mobility operators in the world. We are today supporting our clients in various ways, here are some examples:
Design Workshops: made for operators that are at the stage of designing their service, these workshops help them to define their strategy, positioning on the market and how to organize their operations.
Vulog Connect Workshops: after their launch, most of our clients are facing the same challenges: how to improve operations efficiency, how to increase fleet utilization, etc. On a regular basis, we gather some of our clients so they can share their best practices and key findings.
Partnerships: when you set-up your shared mobility service, finding the right partners is key for your success. At Vulog we are building an ecosystem of partners that our clients can work with, such as Instant Registration providers, Insurance services, Fleet Services, Telecommunications providers, etc. For all our selected partners we put in place a strong technical integration to make sure they can offer the best services for our clients.
Tell us more about who is Antonin outside of work?
I am of course passionate about shared mobility and I love discovering and trying new services around the globe. As part of the passion, I organized a couple of years ago the first world tour in an electric car. Our motto was: “If we can do a world tour in a standard electric car, you can use it for your daily rides!”. We crossed 17 countries in 8 months, for a total of 250€ of electricity.
